PETERSBURG, VA: Today, the United Parents Against Lead (UPAL) announces its solar PV
panel installation to the Historic USO “for Colored Army Troops” Building at 464 Byrne
Street.
The solar installation, which also features battery storage, will run concurrently with a training
bootcamp offered by White House Solar that includes REAL HANDS-ON Experience.
The week-long installation and training begin Monday August 29 and runs through Friday
September 2.
UPAL’s project creates the first Solar-Powered Community Resiliency Hub in the state and
offers many workforce development and entrepreneurial opportunities to local residents. In
addition, the Hub will provide a lighted haven during climate induced power outages or other weather-related crises.
This training initiative provides the 40 credit-hours required for the NABCEP PV Associate
Exams. Courses are created to introduce solar energy and energy storage in both theory and
application to students in key concepts of solar PV design, installation, and safety.
UPAL is committed to providing training and certifications to community members and offers
scholarships and stipends to assist with attendance. Immerging students can enter this course as an absolute beginner and leave with basic and advanced knowledge needed to stand out as a PV professional. Sessions begin at 9:00 am and all class sessions MUST be attended in order to receive certification.
